Climate change causing a shift in Earth's axis

According to a study published in Geophysical Research Letters of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) - our planet's axis of rotation has been moving more than usual since the 1990s.

As per the study this change is due to the significant melting of glaciers because of global temperature rise.

While this change is not expected to affect daily life, it can change the length of the day by a few milliseconds.

Article 311 of Constitution

In the first such order, a J&K government teacher, who in the police records is a Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) supporter, was terminated from his services without holding any inquiry "in the interest of the security of the State".

Article 311 deals with dismissal, removal or reduction in rank of persons employed in civil capacities under the Union or a State.

Article 311(2), sub clause (c) notes that where the President or the Governor, as the case may be, is satisfied that in the interest of the security of the State, it is not expedient to hold such inquiry into the allegations against a person, enquiry may be skipped.

P-8I patrol aircraft

In November 2019, the Defence Acquisition Council, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, approved the procurement of the long-range maritime surveillance aircraft manufactured by Boeing.

The aircraft is designed for long-range anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW), and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions.

The aircraft plays a crucial role in being the eyes of the Indian Navy and carrying out critical maritime operations.

World Press Freedom Day

The UN General Assembly proclaimed World Press Day in December 1993. Since then, May 3, the anniversary of the Declaration of Windhoek has been celebrated worldwide as World Press Freedom Day.
