E9 countries and E9 initiative

Nine countries including Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria and Pakistan will explore possibility of co-creating and scaling up digital learning to achieve UN sustainable goal on quality education.

The E9 initiative is a consultation - first of a three-phased process to co-create an initiative on digital learning and skills, targeting marginalised children and youth, especially girls.

The initiative aims to accelerate recovery and advance the Sustainable Development Goal 4 agenda by driving rapid change in education systems.

Japanese Foreign Minister expressed strong concerns to his Chinese counterpart about Chinese incursions into territorial waters, the situation in Hong Kong and the human rights situation of China's Uighur minority.

China claims a group of uninhabited Japan-controlled islets, called the Senakaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China.

China?s digital currency

Officially titled the Digital Currency Electronic Payment (DCEP), the digital RMB (or Renminbi, China's currency) is, a digital version of China's currency.

It can be downloaded and exchanged via an application authorised by the People's Bank of China (PBOC), China?s central bank.

Unlike an e-wallet such as Paytm in India, the Digital RMB does not involve a third party - This is legal tender guaranteed by the central bank.

The digital currency does not require Internet connectivity, the payment is made through Near-field Communication (NFC) technology.

Maritime exercise La P?rouse

Indian Navy Ships INS Satpura (with an integral helicopter embarked) and INS Kiltan alongwith P8I Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft are participating, for the first time; in multi-lateral maritime exercise La P?rouse (led by French Navy), being conducted in the Eastern Indian Ocean Region.

The Indian Navy ships and aircraft will exercise at sea with ships and aircraft of French Navy (FN), Royal Australian Navy (RAN), Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) and United States Navy (USN) during the three day exercise.
