ISRO to launch geo imaging satellite - GISAT-1

(ISRO) is planning to launch a geo imaging satellite GISAT-1 on board GSLV-F10 rocket in August 2021.

ISRO successfully launched PSLV-C51 mission in Feb, 2021 with Brazil's earth observation satellite Amazonia-1 and 18 co-passengers, including some built by students, on board.

The 2,268 kg GISAT-1 will facilitate near real-time observation of the Indian sub-continent, under cloud-free conditions, at frequent intervals.

GISAT-1 will be placed in geostationary orbit about 36,000 km above earth's equator, using its on board propulsion system.

The earth observation satellite will provide the country near real-time images of its borders and also enable quick monitoring of natural disasters.

The third objective is to obtain spectral signatures of agriculture, forestry, mineralogy, disaster warning, cloud properties, snow and glacier and oceanography.

National Fisheries Development Board

The National Fisheries Development Board celebrated the National Fish Farmers Day virtually.

The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) was established in 2006 as an autonomous organization under the administrative control of the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India.

It aims to enhance fish production and productivity in the country and to coordinate fishery development in an integrated and holistic manner.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi digitally launched the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) on 10th September, 2020.

SAMVEDAN 2021 - Sensing Solutions for Bharat

A National hackathon called "SAMVEDAN 2021 - Sensing Solutions for Bharat" is being organized jointly by IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation (IITM-PTF), along with Sony India Software Centre.

The hackathon aims to inspire citizens to use IoT Sensor Board in order to solve India-specific problems of societal interest.

It is based on the Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation's SPRESENSE Board, which participants can use for this challenge.

IITM-PTF is a Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) for Sensor, Networking, Actuators, and Control Systems (SNACS) area supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS).

IITM-PTF plans to offer Entrepreneur-In-Residence scholarship for the top team for a year which will enable them to nurture it into a start-up.

Salt-secreting Mangrove Species

Avicennia marina is one of the most prominent mangroves species found in all mangrove formations in India.

It is a salt-secreting and extraordinarily salt-tolerant mangrove species that grows optimally in 75% seawater and tolerates >250% seawater.

It is among the rare plant species, which can excrete 40% of the salt through the salt glands in the leaves, besides its extraordinary capacity to exclude salt entry to the roots.

Bhumi Panduga festival

The Koya tribes in the Chintoor Agency of East Godavari district are celebrating the "Bhumi Panduga" festival in their ancestral villages for the last time.

As the village is in the close vicinity of the Polavaram irrigation project and the government is preparing to shift them to the rehabilitation colonies.

The tribals go hunting as part of the "Bhumi Panduga" celebrations, marking the beginning of farm operations every year.

Koya are an Indian tribal community found in the states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

The Polavaram Project is an under construction multi-purpose irrigation project on the Godavari River in the West Godavari District and East Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh.

Its reservoir back water spreads into parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha States.
