Hindi Day: 14 September

Hindi Day is celebrated in some parts of India to commemorate the date 14 September 1949 on which a compromise was reached during the drafting of the Constitution of India-on the languages that were to have official status in the Republic of India.

6th Edition of SCO Exercise Peaceful Mission: 2021

The 6th Edition of SCO Exercise Peaceful Mission : 2021 hosted by Russia started at Orenburg Region of South West Russia.

The aim of the exercise is to foster close relations between SCO Member States and to enhance abilities of the military leaders to command multinational military contingents.

An Indian military contingent comprising of an all arms combined force of 200 personnel from Indian Army and Indian Air force is participating in the exercise.

It is a Multilateral and Joint Counter Terrorism Exercise, which is conducted biennially as part of military diplomacy between Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states.

India participated for the first time in the 5th edition of the Exercise (2018).

Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO)

A joint meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) that was convened in Dushanbe (Tajikistan).

The Collective Security Treaty Organization is an intergovernmental military alliance in Eurasia that consists of selected post-Soviet states.

On 15 May 1992, six post-Soviet states belonging to the Commonwealth of Independent States: Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan signed the Collective Security Treaty (Tashkent Pact or Tashkent Treaty).

Three other post-Soviet states: Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Georgia signed the next year and the treaty took effect in 1994.

CSTO holds yearly military command exercises - a CSTO military exercise called "Rubezh 2008" was hosted in Armenia.

In July 2021, Tajikistan appealed to members of CSTO for help in dealing with security challenges emerging from neighboring Afghanistan. Thousands of Afghans, including police and government troops, fled to Tajikistan after Taliban insurgents took control of many parts of Afghanistan.

Security alliance "AUKUS"

The US has ruled out adding India or Japan to the new trilateral security partnership with Australia and Britain to meet the challenges of the 21st century in the strategic Indo-Pacific region.

The trilateral security alliance AUKUS (Australia, UK and US), seen as an effort to counter China in the Indo-Pacific, will allow the US and the UK to provide Australia with the technology to develop nuclear-powered submarines for the first time.

AUKUS is a trilateral security pact between Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, announced on 15 September 2021 for the Indo-Pacific region.

The pact also includes cooperation on cyber capabilities, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies and undersea capabilities.
