UMANG App : Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance

Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), launched "National Weather Services" from India Meteorological Department (IMD) on the existing Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG) mobile app.

UMANG now includes near real-time (updated eight times a day) information of seven major meteorological services - current weather, city forecast, rainfall information, warnings, nowcast, cyclone updates and tourism forecast.

UMANG is an e-governance app, developed by National E-Governance Division NEGD, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

It was launched by PM Modi on 23 November 2017 at the fifth edition of the Global Conference on Cyberspace in New Delhi.

UMANG is an all-in-one single, unified, secure multi-channel (mobile app, IVR, website, sms), multi-platform (Android, iOS, Windows), multi-lingual (13 Indian languages) freeware mobile app.

UMANG helps in accessing over 1251 services from central and state government department, such as AADHAR, DigiLocker, Bharat Bill Payment System, PAN, EPFO services, PMKVY services, AICTE, CBSE, utilities bills payments, education, job search, tax, business, health, agriculture, travel, birth certificates, e-District, passport and much more.

Citizens can also access their Digilocker Accounts from UMANG and give their feedback after availing any service through Rapid Assessment System (RAS) which has been integrated with UMANG.

The app was launched as a key component of Digital India initiative to make all traditional offline government services available 24/7 online through single unified app.

The ultimate goal of the scheme is to replace or complement 1500 apps launched by the government so far.

Map services in "UMANG App"

Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has enabled map services in "UMANG App" through an MOU with MapmyIndia.

Citizens will be able to find government facilities nearest to their location, such as mandis, blood banks and much more.

UMANG app has already started to provide map functionality through MapmyIndia in the following services:

Mera Ration - Identify and navigate to the "Nearest Fair Price Shops"

eNAM - "Mandi Near Me" help users to navigate to the nearby mandis

Damini - "Damini Lightning Alerts" service is to provide lightning alerts to users by giving a visual of nearby areas where lightning has struck in the last few minutes.
