Amazon to train local artisans : One District One Product scheme

In a bid to promote traditional industries in every district of the state, the Uttar Pradesh government recently launched "One District One Product" scheme with a tagline of "Nayi Udaan, Nayi Pehchan" at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow.

What is One District One Product scheme ?

One District One Product scheme is aimed to give boost to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) and cottage industries of Uttar Pradesh.


Loan papers amounting to Rs 1,006.94 crore are to be distributed to 4,085 artisans from 75 districts in the summit. Traditional industries synonymous with their respective districts will be promoted under the scheme to strengthen local economy and create jobs.

The scheme will also help in improving the product quality, optimise production & productivity and enhancing income and skill development. The scheme also aimed to providing employment to 25 lakh people in five years through the financial assistance of Rs 25,000 crores.

Under the scheme a memorandum of understandings (MoUs) is to be signed between UP government and e-retailer giant Amazon for marketing of products of artisans. Another MoU will be signed between UP Government and Quality Control of India (QCI) tto ensure quality of these products.

Artisans from several districts, including Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Allahabad, Ferozabad, Moradabad, Agra, Kanpur, Meerut, Bhadohi and Varanasi will be trained by Amazon on how to get their products listed on its marketing platform.

A number of MoUs are signed with e-commerce major Amazon, Wipro, GE Healthcare, Quality Circle of India (QCI) and the BSE and National Stock Exchange (NSE). These entities would help the MSMEs and cottage industries by providing training, branding, marketing and other institutional support.
