National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI)

National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) has established a "Customer Care Unit," which will facilitate the interaction of customers with all its Business units.

NIXI has three businesses, viz. - Internet Exchange, Dot IN Registry, and IRINN and all three units deal with their respective customers, supporting and managing their queries.

It is a not-for-profit organization (section 8 of the Companies Act 2013) working since 2003 for spreading the internet infrastructure to the citizens of India through the following activities:

1) Internet Exchanges through which the internet data is exchanged amongst ISP's, Data Centers, and CDNs.

2) .IN Registry, managing, and operation of.IN country-code domain and. भारत IDN domain for India.

3) IRINN, managing and operating Internet protocol (IPv4/IPv6).

It was set up for peering of ISPs among themselves for the purpose of routing the domestic traffic within the country, instead of taking it all the way to US/Abroad, thereby resulting in better quality of service (reduced latency) and reduced bandwidth charges for ISPs by saving on International Bandwidth.

NIXI is managed and operated on a neutral basis and currently has eight operational NOC located in Delhi (Noida), Mumbai (Vashi), Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Guwahati .

.IN is India's Country Code Top Level domain (ccTLD), the GoI delegated the operations of INRegistry to NIXI in 2004. The INRegistry operates and manages India's .IN ccTLD.

Since December 2012, NIXI also manages the National Internet Registry of the country delegation Internet Protocol addresses (IPv4 and IPv6) and Autonomous System numbers to its Affiliates.
