Why in news ?
In a bid to saturate 117 aspirational districts by Independence Day, the government has decided to send 800 top IAS in villages to ensure ground implementation of seven flagship social welfare schemes.

As part of the Extended Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (EGSA) (1 June to 15 August), the government is planning to send at least 800 Deputy Secretaries, Under-Secretaries and Director-level officers, drawn from diverse Ministries as Defence and Urban Affairs to visit 75 selected villages.
A total of 49,178 villages having a majority SC/ST population are targeted under the initiative. These officers from central team will conduct meetings with villagers along with state government's district official a lead bank representative and local officials from the agencies responsible for enrolling people into the schemes.
These meetings are aimed at identifying any hurdle in the path of scheme implementation and to sort them out on the spot.
